When my last enemy shall be destroyed
en·e·my [en-uh-mee]
-noun
"a person who feels hatred for, fosters harmful designs against, or engages in antagonistic activities against another; an adversary or opponent."
Many of the greatest human activity that have ever been accomplished, happened during a time when there was a known, identifiable, and marked enemy.
There is something within the spirit of man that needs a focal point for evil.
During WWII, the focal point of evil was the Axis powers of Germany, Italy, and Japan.
Much of the last century Americas nemesis was Communism, identified by the Soviet Union and her satellite nations.
The resulting economical and military advances crushed all four of her adversaries.
I believe this need for an enemy is a basic instinct put into man by God.
Eight times in the Gospels he told us who the enemy was not.
"Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets."
Your enemy is not anyone you know, have met or who has done you wrong.
Our enemies are death, hell, sin, and the accuser of the brethren.
Death - the thief that visits all of us sooner than we are completely ready.
Hell - the ever enlarging abyss, that will torment every lost soul for eternity.
Sin - the deforming, lying, seducing spirit that separates all of mankind from fellowship with God.
The Devil - the sworn enemy of all mankind, the prince of the power of the air, the god of this world, the accuser of the brethren.
When King Saul began to pursue his enemies instead of Gods, God brought his kingdom to a end.
What things could have been said about Saul if he would have used the same amount of focused attention building Gods kingdom as he deployed to destroy David?
Chasing an enemy is an unfulfilling task, enemies are elusive. Saul never caught David, in the process Saul did neglect the business of the kingdom. Saul died both frustrated and unfulfilled and eventually mad.
When Saul began to view David as his enemy his vision got way out of focus, his judgement became impaired, and God became his enemy.
Never once after Saul began to pursue David dose the word of God indicate any level of victory or anointing in his life. Instead the sad record is that God had left him, and he was vexed by an evil spirit.
Haman wanted for nothing, he was second in the kingdom only to the king.
How much further would he have been in life, if he would have used the same effort establishing the kings interest as he arrayed to destroy his enemies?
God brought Haman's rule to an end and placed Mordecai, in his place.
Haman, Mordecai is not your enemy, you are out of focus, your judgement is impaired, and God is now your enemy.
Whom do you view as your enemy.
Someone who has done you wrong?
Someone who has damaged you in some shape or form?
They are not your enemy.
Your enemies are the devil, death, hell and sin.
No matter how effective a battle you wage, you cannot win. Enemies are elusive, and vengeance belongs to God.
In the process you will loose your focus of what's important.
Your judgement will become impaired,
And God will begin to fight against you.
Focus in on whom you are fighting... It is not your brother.
The devil does not need to make you backslide to destroy you, he only needs you to get out of focus. I know of churches that have been out of focus for years, it shows in their dry services, barren altars, and lack of joy.
While you are out of focus your true enemies go unchecked and unchallenged.
"There is a whole world waiting to be born."
Focus in on your enemies, and go to battle.
As always thank you for reading, your comments are always welcome.
I hope this motivates you to become all God has called you to be. Focus on what you need to become, not who has done you wrong.
"The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death."
