Luke 17:1-3 Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come!
It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.
Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.
Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him;
As opposed to – silently holding a grudge.
As opposed to – Going to war.
As opposed to – resorting to slander.
As opposed to – sowing discord.
As opposed to – collecting an army of others whom we have poisoned.
This requires of us that we address our own insecurities.
This requires us to judge ourselves as to the reason for the offense.
Are we full of pride?
Do we need to pray through?
Is this sight only imaginary?
Many offenses are not major enough to go to our brother,
But no offense is so small that we cannot use it to harbor an offense.
The easy way out –
It is easier to hold a grudge and keep score.
It is easier to slander with your tongue and murder with your heart.
What is it about our fallen nature that we would rather carry around a grudge, an offense, the weight of some by-gone event… Lay aside every sin and the weight that so easily beset us… than to be liberated from the past?
It is impossible to run encumbered with an offense.
The mill stone of offense – around the neck.
If you are a Christian the safest place for my reputation is in your hands.
Christianity requires us to find our voice.
Christ calls us to turn the other cheek.
Christ calls us to go the second mile
He also calls us to go to our brother when we feel wronged, or when we have wronged him .
We are not complete without our brother…
He is not complete without us…
Break the silence
Communication is the highest form of love…
“Rebuke him and if he repents forgive him”
Silence is the ultimate form of hatred.
