Just to walk with Him

“Just to walk with him means everything to me

Just to know he’s near His hands are leading me,

Though the world may pass me by, go their way let me be,

Just to walk with Him means everything to me”…

These are the words to an old song of the Church. Its message is obvious; the road you may traverse is not.

Many set out to follow Him as He turns the water into wine and as He feeds the multitude with the loaves and small fishes.

I want to look at a few of the destinations you will visit as you begin to walk with Him.

The House of Sorrow- He is a man of sorrow, acquainted with grief. He is despised and rejected of men. He came unto his own and His own receive Him not.

If you are ever going to walk very far with him, you too will spend time in the house of sorrow and will become well acquainted with grief.

Often some of the very first reactions to your walking with Him is being despised and rejected.

When He is done wrong, He opens not His mouth. If you walk with Him, you will probably be asked” to suffer wrong”, “turn the other cheek”, and “pray for those who despite-fully use you.”

These prayer meetings are not about “calling down fire from heaven,” but He asks you to pray,” Father forgive them for they know not what they do.”

Let me warn you, your reputation may not be safe if you walk with Him. He made “himself of no reputation”- “He eats with sinners and publicans”- and He is a friend to sinners.

If He isn’t concerned about His reputation, don’t be surprised when he isn’t concerned about yours.

Your reputation will suffer if you walk very far with Him.

He spends time alone in solitary places.

Yes, if you walk with Him, He will lead you to solitary places to pray. It is in these solitary places were you face yourself and your God can commune with you.

If you are looking for popularity and a crowd, you might look to follow another master.

He says;

· “Straight is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life and few there be that find it”- no big crowds here.

· “Many are called, but few are choosen” – It is probably the road He walks on.

When the cost of discipleship gets high, He will challenge you, with, “will you also go away?”

He always leaves the door open, if you are mindful of the country from whence you came out, you will have opportunity's to return.

These are difficult times. But they are times of revelation also. It is in these times you remember why you started following Him in the beginning.

“Lord to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life. And we believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.’

But Just to walk with Him means everything to me…
