Too many lovers

More and more we hear this phrase among christians, "I am emotionally drained".

Even when it is not spoken you can see it on their faces and watch it in their listless response to worship and the preaching of the word. Too emotionally spent to make a connection with God. Too emotionally spent to make a connection in prayer. Too emotionally drained to make a connection in the spirit and receive the word as it is preached.

"Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life."

Your heart and mind are the center of your emotions. As believers we readily accept that there is a struggle for our minds and affections. But the command to "keep our hearts" is the farthest thing from our minds.

Praise is the result of emotion...
"When I think of the goodness of Jesus"

God put emotion with in us - bear fruit

The fruit of love is obedience ...
The fruit of Hope is patience ...
The fruit of Sorrow is repentance ...
The fruit of Fear is departing from evil ...
The fruit of Joy is sacrifice ....

The Lords continual complaint against Israel was that she had sought out many other lovers. Instead of reserving her love for him, they were continually spending themselves pursuing many other suitors.

The result they had no emotion to spend in the pursuit of their God.

Abstaining from something not because it is sin, but because it is a distraction is almost un-heard of in most apostolic circles.

The ministry can not make rules fast enough of broad enough to cover the invasion of voices vying for our affections and attention.

When you come to church do you have any emotion to spend in the pursuit of God? Or have you spent it all through out the week perusing you many lovers.
