If I could change one thing in my life

Have you ever day dreamed about changing some portion of your life? We all have from time to time.

Young king Solomon had that chance, God appeared to him in the night and said unto him, "Ask what I shall give thee."

Solomon had a blank check from God.
Solomon could change anything in his life he wanted to.

Let me ask you that same question. What would you change in your world today if God visited you with this opportunity ?

Solomon asked for grace to do what life was asking him to do!
He asked for the wisdom to accomplish the task of leading Gods people.

"And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king"

I want to focus on Gods response to Solomon's prayer.

"Because this was in thine heart" - what we pray reveals much of what is in our heart.

"You did not ask for:
1. Riches
2. Wealth
3. Honor
4. the life of your enemies
5. Or long life"

This was a list compiled by God of things Solomon did not ask for. God was drawing attention to the fact that Solomon's prayer was out of the norm of what he hears on a daily basis.

Solomon's prayer was the exception, thus God wanted to draw our attention to it.

Like the widow woman who gave all she had, Jesus drew everyone's attention to her offering. "Look this woman gave more than all the others"

So God draws our attention to this selfless prayer of Israel's newest king.

That he had enemies and critics in the kingdom goes without saying. All new kings are surrounded by those who are hoping you fail so they can say " see I told you so,"

All new kings are equally surrounded by antagonist who are actively working over time to destroy them while they are vulnerable.

Dealing with his enemies was one of the greatest need of the kingdom.

He asked for wisdom.

The desire for Riches, wealth, and fame are part of the battle every leader must conquer. Even Jesus faced these in his temptation in the wilderness.

If fame is your ultimate goal and desire, you will never be Gods king.

If your goal is financial gain, somewhere along the road there will opportunities to sell out your calling.

Asking for wisdom.

James 1:5
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

God never promised us wealth, riches, fame or that he would silence our critics, but he did promise to give us the wisdom we need to walk where we are in life if we would ask.

This kind of praying is a letting go and trusting God. It requires trust in God plan and provision. This kind of praying produces peace of mind and brings a calm spirit.

As far as food and wealth, " he knows what we need before we even ask"

As far as critics and enemies " What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?"

It is an accepting of this fact: "I am right where God wants me to be."

"The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.
Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand."

I am not looking to change the things in my life, I am just asking for the wisdom to be what God is calling me to become.

My prayer today is God give me the wisdom that I need to be all you have called me to be, right here where I am at.
